Washington, D.C.

March 20, 2016 joelmcneece

I have the opportunity to visit Washington, D.C. each spring with the National Newspaper Association and always cherish my time there.

dc362My favorite statue is this one of Andrew Jackson, which you can also find in Jackson Square in New Orleans and on the grounds of the Tennessee capitol in Nashville.

dc1339The monument honoring FDR would be great anyway, but add his dog Fala and it’s unforgettable.

dc1315The best memorial for the best president.

dc1340The Jefferson Memorial is my second favorite – next to Lincoln.

dc1341This year was my first visit to see Dr. Martin Luther King’s memorial, which I found moving. I also can’t look over the reflecting pool from the Lincoln Memorial without thinking of him.

IMG_1312Speaking of the reflecting pool. It was a beautiful day looking out from the Lincoln Memorial.

dc1343View of the city while walking to Jefferson Memorial.

dc1361Always does my heart good to see a Yellow Lab on the job.

dc1263Feeling creative sitting at the bar in the Monocle.

dc1305I never visit D.C. without getting out to Georgetown and Martin’s Tavern at least once.

dc1365Some delicious offerings at the cafe inside The Willard hotel.
